Beard Trim at Amit Blends is $20, about 25 min. Shaped, lined out and softened at the edges. Hot towel first, oil after. Amit Chhetri cuts at The Refinery Barbershop, 320 Riverside Dr, Sudbury.

A beard trim in Sudbury that is a shape, not just a shorten. Most beards do not need length taking off — they need the cheek line raised, the neckline dropped to where it belongs, and the corners squared so the whole thing reads as deliberate.

What happens in the chair

A hot towel goes on first. That is not theatre: warm hair is softer, sits flatter and cuts cleaner, and it makes the razor work around the edges far less uncomfortable.

Then the three lines that decide whether a beard looks tidy or looks neglected:

  • The neckline. Roughly two fingers above the Adam’s apple, curving up to behind the jaw — not along the jawbone. A neckline cut on the jaw makes a beard look like a chinstrap and takes weeks to grow back.
  • The cheek line. Cleaned up and softened rather than drawn on with a razor. A hard straight cheek line suits some faces and makes others look like they are wearing the beard.
  • The corners. Where the moustache meets the beard and where the beard meets the sideburn. Squaring these off is most of what people notice.

Bulk is taken down with clippers or scissors only if it needs it. The moustache is taken off the lip. Beard oil at the end, and the loose hair brushed off.

Who this is for

Anyone whose beard has got past the point where a trimmer at the bathroom mirror is honest with them, and anyone who cannot see their own neckline well enough to cut it straight. Nobody can. That is most of the reason this exists.

How often to come back

Every two to four weeks for a short beard, four to six for a longer one. The neckline is what gives it away first, so if you are stretching it, that is the bit to keep on top of.

What it costs

$20 on its own. Booked with a haircut it is a cut and beard at $50 rather than $55, and more importantly the beard line gets taken off the same fade as the hair, so the sideburn actually connects.

If you want it off entirely rather than shaped, that is a hot towel shave. Book a time.
