Haircut at Amit Blends is $35, about 45 min. Clippers and scissors, washed and styled. Cut to how your hair actually falls, not to a picture. Amit Chhetri cuts at The Refinery Barbershop, 320 Riverside Dr, Sudbury.

A men’s haircut in Sudbury that starts with a conversation, not a guess. Before anything is switched on you get asked three things: how short on the sides, how much off the top, and where you want the line to sit. Two minutes of talking beats a month of growing something out.

What happens in the chair

The cut is clippers through the back and sides and scissors over the top, or scissors throughout if that is what the hair wants. Your hair is washed first — wet hair falls the way it actually falls, and cutting it dry hides the cowlick that shows up an hour later. It is finished with the neck cleaned, the edges lined, and the hair brushed off your collar before you stand up.

You will be shown the back in the mirror. If something is not right, that is the moment to say so.

Who this is for

Anyone growing out a crop, keeping a side part, or wearing it long enough to need weight taken out rather than length taken off. If you want the sides taken down to the skin, that is a skin fade rather than this. If the beard needs doing at the same time, booking the cut and beard together is cheaper than the two separately and the lines actually meet.

How often to come back

Four to six weeks for most heads. Shorter on the sides means it grows out of shape faster — a tight cut looks obviously grown out at three weeks, where something softer will hold for six. If you want to stretch the gap, a line-up halfway through keeps the edges sharp for a fraction of the price.

What it costs

$35, flat. That is the price whether it takes the full forty-five minutes or less. Nothing gets added at the till, and nothing gets sold to you in the chair — if your beard does not need doing, you will be told so.

Where

Common questions

How long does a haircut take?
About forty-five minutes. That includes the wash, the cut and the finish - neck cleaned, edges lined, hair off your collar before you stand up.
Is the wash included?
Yes. Some shops charge it separately. Hair is cut wet because wet hair falls the way it actually falls, and cutting it dry hides the cowlick that turns up an hour later.
How often should I come back for a haircut?
Four to six weeks for most heads. A tighter cut looks obviously grown out at three weeks, where something softer holds for six.
What if I do not know what I want?
Bring a photo or point at your own head. You get asked how short on the sides, how much off the top and where the line sits before anything is switched on.
