A line-up in Sudbury — also called an edge-up or a shape-up — is the fifteen minute job that makes a two-week-old haircut look like a two-day-old one. Nothing is taken off the length. Only the edges.
What gets done
- The front hairline, squared or curved to whatever shape your last cut used. It gets matched to what is already there rather than redrawn, because every line-up that pushes the hairline back a few millimetres is millimetres you do not get back.
- The temples, cleaned up where they have gone fuzzy.
- The sideburns, cut level with each other. They are never level on their own.
- The neckline, taken back to a clean edge.
That is the entire job. The sides do not get taken down, the top does not get touched, and the fade does not get rebuilt — if the blend has grown out, what you want is the haircut or skin fade again rather than this.
The honest limit
A line-up hides grown-out edges. It does not hide a grown-out fade. Somewhere around the third week the difference between the skin and the first guard stops being a blend, and no amount of edge work fixes that — it will look sharp at the front and soft everywhere else.
So the useful place for this is week two of a three-week cycle, or the day before something you want to look tidy for. Used that way it is the best value on the list. Used as a substitute for a haircut it is money spent on a cut that still needs doing.
What it costs
$15, fifteen minutes. It is the one thing on the list that will sometimes fit around a walk-in, though that still depends on the chair being free.

- Will a line-up fix a grown-out fade?
- No. It hides grown-out edges, not a grown-out blend. Past about three weeks you will look sharp at the front and soft everywhere else.
- When is the best time to get one?
